Charlotte, NC (September 12, 2005) - Continental AG and its US subsidiary Continental Tire North America, Inc. (CTNA) announced its intention to donate $50,000 to Transitional Assistance to Survivors of Katrina (TASK), a charitable fund established at the Foundation for the Carolinas. In addition, Continental AG and its US subsidiary Continental Automotive Systems will donate $50,000 to assist Katrina evacuees to the Western North Carolina region, for a combined donation of $100,000.

TASK has been set up to provide survivors with basic essentials for living including bedding, utilities and rent. In addition to providing funds to TASK, CTNA is working together with Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory to assist evacuees that have come to the city and surrounding area to help them get settled. With its donation to this valuable organization, CTNA hopes that other companies will follow this example.

"The displacement of so many people is truly a human tragedy, and we wanted to identify some tangible things we could do to help here in Charlotte," said Dr. Alan Hippe, CEO of Continental Tire North America, which is headquartered in Charlotte. "I am very pleased that we are able to contribute a small piece to what is a monumental effort by so many people and we look forward to providing funding to TASK and to working with Mayor McCrory to do our part in the community. We hope that other local companies will also join this effort to help these people in need."
