APIA: Active Passive Integration Approach

APIA, Active Passive Integration Approach, Networked Systems, Active Safety, Passive Safety

APIA points the way to a vehicle that avoids accidents and prevents injuries. This is achieved by networking active and passive safety systems and integrating environmental sensors. A danger control modul detects traffic hazards and determines the probability of an accident for the current traffic situation and, if necessary, initiates a staged hazard response to protect the occupants and other road users.

The advantages of APIA

  • Efficient avoidance of accidents
  • Minimization of the effects of accidents and injury mitigation
  • Comprehensive protection against personal injury for the occupants of a vehicle as well as the pedestrians involved.
  • New functions through system integration
  • Cost reduction through common use of components

APIA today

  • Sub-systems of APIA are already being produced in series. Therefore the benefits of system integration will be available in the near future.
  • Using ACC sensors, it is already possible to detect the traffic situation.
  • New technologies are being adapted to APIA and continuously developed further.
  • The interfaces of APIA are designed for easy integration of external systems.

The future with APIA

Image processing will make it possible to classify road users for the first time. In combination with radar/lidar, this will increa-se the reliablity of analyzing the traffic situation. Combined steering and braking interventions will support the driver in avoiding accidents.
