Principle of operation ABC is the abbreviation for Active Body Control. The system is designed to regulate the degrees of freedom of the vehicle: - Rolling motions
- Pitching motions
- Leveling constancy
- Damping
The vehicles are equipped with special struts for this purpose. So-called plungers are installed in addition to the existing conventional elements of springs and dampers. These plungers can be used to influence the charactersitics of the (weaker constructed) dampers and springs. Since a considerable computing performance is demanded by the above tasks, the control unit is designed in a dual computer concept. The system achieves a fully active chassis control. Parallel to the normal function algorithm, an extensive part of the software derived from specified safety user requirements is applied for error detection, reaction, and corrective measures.
