Door control units

Aside from activating the power window motors, the Continental Automotive Systems door modules contribute to driving comfort with many other functions as well. These include the electric operation and heating of the exterior mirrors, selection of electric seat adjustments with memory function, and much more. The function scope of the door modules is variable, since in the end effect it is made according to desired customer specifications.

Standard at Continental Automotive Systems is the communication facility of the controls with other electronic units located outside the door. The electronic controls can for instance be used to exchange information via CAN, LIN or J 1850 bus concerning the identification of the key from the ignition lock, vehicle speed, saved seat memory settings and window positions and diagnosis requests or messages. Fundamentally, Continental Automotive Systems door modules distinguish between solutions integrated in the power window motor or operator panel and those which are installed as a stand-alone assembly in the door.

Power window with anti-trap function

Modern, state-of-the-art electronic comfort equipment is characterized by a broad range of functionality as well as a high degree of added value for the driver by providing maximum safety when used. We have taken this fully into account with its power window electronics which are equipped with an effective, intelligent anti-trap function, ensuring a perfectly safe window closure with "one-touch-up" mode.

A particular feature of this safety concept involves the low clamping forces between the car side windows and the door frame or edge of roof.

Changes in these forces occurring when the window is closing make the window reverse directions. Any resistance is recognized by an intelligent evaluation of the motor power. The advantages of this solution compared to that based on rotational speed are the lower clamping force and an extremely fast system reaction. The product also produces a low clamping force when touching a hard object and yet can recognize particularly soft bodies rapidly and reliably.
