Intelligent nodes

One of the striking features of modern automotive technology is the intensive use of electronic systems throughout the vehicle, including their sophisticated monitoring and control functions. Specific assemblies - the central control units - often take over this function. The central control unit generally consists of two functionally independent submodules  - the intelligent logic unit and the power module with exchangeable fuses and relays.

The logic module is responsible for the microprocessor-controlled evaluation of numerous hardware inputs such as the light switch, windshield wiper switch on the steering wheel, and diverse sensors inputs. The module is networked with a number of other control units via CAN bus. The diverse power loads such as lamps and pumps and motors are activated according to the respective input signals. The system is continually monitored to ensure a high degree of constant availability, an ongoing diagnosis possible at all times via the CAN connection.

While the logic module functions as an intelligent node, the power module acts as load distributor on the one hand and carrier of exchangeable fuses and relays on the other hand. The engineering concept focuses here on the mechanical design and modular technology in order to fulfil tough demands regarding the electric load capacity and warming characteristics. Aside from conventional pressed screen technology, heavy-current circuit boards with copper layer widths of up to 400µm are being used of late. The contacts are pressed directly into the circuit board, eliminating the need for the soldering process altogether.
