In today's world with increasing competition and rising fuel costs, finding ways to improve the bottom line are crucial. Fuel and tires are two of a fleet's largest cost. Finding a way to optimize both will make a significant impact on your business result. 

Continental Tire has risen to the challenge by developing a new line of truck tires designed to optimize both. The new HSL Eco Plus & HDL Eco Plus were designed to provide the best of best in fuel economy while still providing excellent removal mileage, which is typically sacrificed for improved fuel efficiency.

To test and demonstrate the fuel economy of the Continental Tire line, we conducted the recognized industry standard fuel consumption test, SAE J1264 at our Uvalde Proving Grounds. This test was run using two identical conventional tractor/trailers under the following test conditions:

• 80,000 lbs GVW at 55 mph.
• This measurement procedure gives the fuel consumption test an accuracy of +/- 1%.
• The 275/80R22.5 Continental HSL Eco Plus & HDL Eco Plus tire combination was used as the control.
• The 275/80R22.5 Continental HTL was used in the trailer position on all tests.

• 275/80R22.5 XZA2 & XDA2
• 275/80R22.5 XZA3 & XDA3
• 295/75R22.5 G397 LHS & G372 LHD
• 295/75R22.5 R227 & M726
• 275/80R22.5 Continental HSL Ecoplus & HDL Ecoplus

Test Results

The fuel consumption test showed that the Continental HSL Eco Plus/ HDL Eco Plus tire combination will improve fuel consumption by 4.7% to 7.2%, in comparison with XZA2/ XDA-HT, G397 LHS/G372 LHD and R227/ M726 tire combinations.

Taking into consideration the test accuracy of +/- 1%, the HSL Eco Plus/ HDL Eco Plus duo is equivalent to the XZA2/ XDA2 and XZA3/ XDA3 combinations with an added benefit of an extra 2/32nd tread depth from the HDL Eco Plus and LRH carrying capacity in all sizes.

The compelling result is that the Continental HSL Eco Plus & HDL Eco Plus tires will dramatically improve your bottom line in both fuel and tire savings.
