Wet Grip Facility

The wet grip facilities were constructed to enhance the Uvalde Proving Grounds overall testing capabilities and provide cutting edge testing technology. These courses are exact replicas of those found at the Continental AG's proving grounds in Germany (Contidrom).

Wet Handling Course

This course is 5,100 ft (1,555 m) in length and provides a wetted asphalt surface capable of water depths up to .04" (1mm) and speeds up to 70 mph (110 kph).

Objective and subjective evaluations, lap-time measurements and tire evaluation behavior can be determined on this course.

Guided Rail

Incorporated within the traction testing skid pad, the guided rail is used to conduct skid braking, ABS wet braking and hydroplaning longitudinal tests.

Measurements are taken in the same lane resulting in a small deviation in single results. High reproducibility and repeatability of testing results in more accurate test data.

Asphalt and concrete surfaces are available and can accommodate water depths of approximately .04" (1mm).

Lateral Grip Circle

With an inner diameter of 180 ft (55 m), this circle provides an asphalt testing area that accommodates water depths up to .04" (1mm) for lap-time measurements and subjective evaluation of tire behavior.

200 Meter Circle

With an inner diameter of 650 ft (200 m), this circle provides a dry asphalt surface with a 66 ft (20 m) length water section and a typical water depth of .24" (6mm).

Simulating water puddles in curves on public roads, this large circle is the perfect location for lateral hydroplaning testing. Subjective evaluation of tire behavior can also be conducted on this course.
