Tire Services: Exceptional tires for bustling airports. As the 2nd busiest airport in the world, Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport has more than 77 million passengers that travel through it annually. Not long ago, the busiest airline at O’Hare, accounting for 49 % of all passenger traffic, turned to a Continental industrial tire dealer called Tire Services, Inc. for help in solving severe tire problems on its ground support equipment—mainly its tow tractors. Premature wear, flats, and outright blowouts were just some of the problems the airline was experiencing with the competitor tires, causing its ground support equipment to be in the garage much of the time. After consulting with Tire Services, Inc. owner Mike Keate and Sales Manager Ron McCord, the airline agreed to try Continental’s ContiRV20 industrial radial tire, due to the tire’s dual-steel belt construction, reinforced sidewalls, and low heat generation. “Although it has a more expensive purchase price compared to the original equipment type tires we were using, the ContiRV20 industrial radial tire has reduced the airline’s expenses associated with tire replacement and maintenance by more than 80%!” exclaims Mike Keate. As a result, the airline now specifies the use of the ContiRV20 on its ground support equipment at its major airports across the country, including Chicago, Baltimore, Washington-Dulles, Denver, San Francisco, Boston, and Newark. Meanwhile, the airline and Tire Services, Inc. continue to provide ongoing feedback to Continental on the ContiRV20’s performance – documenting the realized lifetime increases and measuring cost per hour savings for the airline. The results, currently, are astonishing. “Within just a few months,we reached a dramatic improvement of more than 4.5 times the wear life, the virtual elimination of flats, and fewer incidents of sidewall damage!” McCord said.
