Long Lifetimes for Lift Trucks

Cascade Engineering: Ease of maintenance and exceptional durability.

Cascade Engineering is a multi-business manufacturer and marketer supporting multiple brands, employing more than 1,000 people throughout the U.S. and more than 500 within their Grand Rapids, Michigan location. They manufacture for and market to a variety of industries such as automotive, commercial truck & bus, solid waste & recycling, furniture, material handling and renewable energy.

Through their tire dealer in Grand Rapids, Morrison Industrial Equipment, Cascade Engineering began testing Continental 18x7-8 (180/70-8) CSEasy SC 15 tires on their Linde model H18 forklifts in fall 2008. By the following spring, the tires had been in successful use for more than 1,800 hours! This was a welcome improvement for Cascade, who was used to only 300 to 1,000 hours of tire lifetimes from competitors.

One year later and the choice was clear. The CSEasy SC 15 tires lasted a total of 2,373 hours - a total of twice as long as the longest-lasting competitor's tires!

The performance on the lift trucks was great, said Cascade's Al DuRussel, but the CSEasy innovation from Continental was an added bonus.

"We have been using this setup for about a year now, with absolutely no problems, no breakdowns due to poor quality, etc. I did the changeover to these tires, took very little effort to figure out how they are put together and after that, just fine. Figuring out previous costs of pressing tires and how many times you can use the apparatus over and over, it really is a no brainer," DuRussel said.

Cascade Engineering recommends that other users of lift trucks give Continental the opportunity to install a set of industrial tires on their equipment and see the result.

"Our lift trucks work inside/outside a production facility, under all weather conditions, and the tires we use are holding up well. We have tried several types, and the Continental CSEasy currently in use is doing great. If this trend continues I will have the entire fleet switched over," DuRussel said.
