January 2010:
Continental and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™

Detailed portraits of all qualified teams already available online

Hanover (pps) Continental, Europe’s leading tire manufacturer, is once again faster than many newspaper and magazine publishing companies. As an official sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, the company already offers detailed portraits of all 32 World Cup participants on the internet. On the website www.ContiSoccerWorld.de there are detailed reports on the history of the country and its people, the teams, the stars and the coaches as well as reports on numerous persons, events and soccer-related topics.

As Continental operates globally, these articles have also been translated into English, Spanish and French and serve the football fans all over the world as basic information worth reading. Continental is planning the World Cup and its programme as meticulously as the German national team does. The company with headquarters in Hanover therefore hired 26 highly motivated South Africans from the regions of Johannesburg and Soweto who will finish a one-year training in May and who will look after the guests of the tire manufacturer during the World Cup, together with the Continental-employees and hostesses. Two of them will even provide the fans personal insights into the culture and customs of the country in regular blogs. Here, they give information about hairdressers, about the way of celebrating Christmas or about the possibility to let one’s apartment to estate agencies during the World Cup which can then rent it to World Cup tourists. The haggling over the price for it is really worth reading!

The category ”Insights“ is absolutely recommendable. A real fan may already know the information about the German football that is given here from other sources. However, Continental is an international company and serves fans from all over the world who are interested in the German football in the four official football-languages. On the other hand, the fans will rather rarely find such compact information about international football on the internet.

Rich sources for smirking are the weekly World Cup-quotations. For instance, that one of Ronald Koeman after the 2-1-victory of the Dutch over Germany in the semi-final of the EURO 1988 in Hamburg who stated completely exhausted: “The German players only stop fighting when they are sitting in the bus.” (This text is only available in German). Continental in contrast always keeps up developing new technologies as even modern tires still can be improved for the usage on ice, snow, and streets or in the desert.
