June 2008: Fan activities in Basle and Vienna

Official sponsor Continental AG offers entertainment for everyone

Hannover (pps) Towards the end of the UEFA European Football Championship, the events are concentrated in the semi-finals locations in Basle and Vienna, where the final will be held on Sunday. Of course Continental AG, who was represented in the fan zones in all cities where matches were held, has concentrated its activities in these main locations.

On site in Vienna. Conti pitched its tents on Heroes’ Square. 170 square meters. No sales staff, just games and fun. And enthusiasm. Continental AG put the motto of the European Football Championship into action perfectly: Show emotions.

First station: a foosball table. A boy challenges his mother. Do they play games together otherwise? Definitely not foosball. The game is integrated in a Conti tire. Subtle, but effective. Mother and junior will remember which tire is the most likable.

For kids who come alone, there is internet and Play Station. At one station, the speed of an eleven meter penalty shot is measured, but there is hardy anyone who can reach the maximum permissible speed of a Conti tire. Little kids have their faces made up in fan colors. And everybody wants a free souvenir picture. Conti relies on emotions – successfully. Technical know-how and years of scientific research are translated into emotions in a playful manner, giving people an understanding of them.

“By being present in the fan zones, we want to give the football fans the opportunity to be active themselves before and after the matches,” according to Silke Gliemann, communications manager for Continental’s replacement business for passenger and light truck tires.

Since each of the eight cities has a different concept for the fan zone, Continental developed four different concepts and is offering the “Dual” in Basle. Here, the TV commercial with advertising partner Timo Hildebrand is simulated. The football fans have to drop as many balls as possible into the classic goal with two holes using a goal kick cannon in a specified amount of time. There are of course small prizes for the most successful players.

Experience with the 2006 FIFA Word Cup in Germany showed that interactive activities are very popular since the fans want to demonstrate how good they can be when they can do something themselves. For those who were not lucky enough to get a ticket, Lührs recommends a visit to Continental’s websites. At www.ContiSoccerWorld.de, Continental provides comprehensive information on the teams and stars of the UEFA EURO 2008™, its own football activities, as well as the winners of previous tournaments.
