Korbach/Hanover, August 11, 2010. On August 14 at SV Buchenberg’s playing field, the German soccer eleven from Korbach will be facing off against the national champions from Port Elizabeth, South Africa, and Ebbw Vale, UK, in a round-robin series of matches. The winner of the matches advances to the quarter finals of the corporate world football tournament of the international automotive supplier Continental. The Korbach men’s team had already managed to defeat close to 20 teams in the qualification rounds and became the German champion. |

As a further highlight, ball-playing skill and competitive stamina will be put to the test in two special matches, one between employees from China and their German trainers from the tire plant, and the other between the A youth of JSG Buchenberg and JSG Burgwald sports clubs. Here you can download the press release as a Word-file. “After the German women’s eleven from Frankfurt already qualified for the international quarter finals in Hanover, the men from Korbach want to follow in their footsteps for Germany. We, the trainers, the team captains and the organization team share our colleagues’ enthusiasm for the tournament. And this enthusiasm is making itself felt well beyond the games. We are looking forward to getting to know the colleagues from Port Elizabeth and Ebbw Vale and, together with them, to turn the football matches into a football festival,” says Sven Mewes, team captain and co-organizer of the tournament. Back in the spring of 2009, Continental blew the starting whistle for its second corporate world football tournament.
The ContiTeamCup 2009/2010 adheres to the same regime as the tournament four years ago. All the plants can participate with women’s and men’s teams. Teams play each other first at local level, then at national level, and finally at group level. The group winners advance to the finals in Hanover. The qualification games were played in the period from April 2009 to June 2010. The finals will be held on September 17 to 19, 2010, in the corporation's home town of Hanover. “2010 is again a football year – and Continental is in on the action in two ways: as an official partner of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ and with the ContiTeamCup 2010,” says Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Continental AG Executive Board member for human resources. “Team spirit and enthusiasm are especially important in eventful times like this. After all, one of Continental's visions is: Performance is our passion.” |
