Hanover, July 9, 2010. Germany’s football eleven still has every chance of securing the world championship title in the ContiTeamCup corporate football tournament staged by Continental, the international automotive supplier. The men’s team from the Hessian town of Korbach managed to defeat close to 20 teams in the rounds of national matches before advancing to become Germany’s champion. It now faces the South Africa and UK champions from Port Elizabeth and Ebbw Vale. The winners of the match will move on to the quarter-finals which will be held together with the other finals on September 17 to 19 in the corporation’s home town of Hanover. The women’s team is set to play against Belgium, France and Portugal in the group finals. |

Running parallel to the 2010 FIFA World Cup South AfricaTM, for which Continental is an official partner, women’s and men’s teams from about 100 locations are competing for the Continental world championship title. The Hanover-based automotive supplier first brought the ContiTeamCup to life for the 2006 FIFA World Cup GermanyTM. Arousing enormous enthusiasm, the 2006 tournament evolved into the greatest sports event ever in the history of the company. Cheered on by thousands of spectators, over 150 women’s and men’s teams from 26 countries competed against one another for the Continental world cup in hundreds of national and international matches. The ContiTeamCup 2009/2010 adheres to the same regime as the tournament four years ago. All the plants can participate with women’s and men’s teams. Teams play each other first at local level, then at national level and finally at group level. The group winners advance to the finals in Hanover. The qualification games started in April 2009. |
