Cup winners Dortmund away at Oberneuland

For Borussia Dortmund, the 2012 winners of the DFB Cup, the new season’s – 2012/2013 – competition will kick-off at FC Oberneuland, a Regionaliga club in Bremen. The first round of the 70th edition of the cup staged by the German Football Association (DFB) will be played from 17 to 20 August (Friday to Monday) – one week before the start of the 50th Bundesliga season. Record German champions Bayern Munich, who in May lost the last final 5-2 against Dortmund in Berlin, will start their campaign when they take on the second division’s newly-promoted SSV Jahn Regensburg in a Bavarian derby.

The draw for the first round was made during the European Championship at Germany’s base in Danzig on 23 June. In picking the 64 balls with the names clubs out of the glass bowls, the 32 pairings were drawn by German woman international Viola Odebrecht She was assisted by Oliver Bierhoff, the team manager of the men’s national team.

The two biggest “minnows” to qualify for the first round were both handed attractive ties. SV Falkensee-Finkenkrug, a Verbandsliga team, were handed the hoped-for Bundesliga side when they were paired with VfB Stuttgart. Another Verbandsliga club FC Schönberg 95 has been given a David and Goliath home tie against the five divisions higher Bundesliga club, VfL Wolfsburg.
