When a tyre comes to the end of its second phase, only about 20% of its total material has worn away and it still has plenty of potential life. Retreading the tyre makes sound economic sense and has a positive impact on the environment, because it delivers operating cost savings of up to 13% and negates the need to purchase a new tyre. It is estimated that by retreading tyres to achieve longer life, we reduce oil used in tyre production by some 15 million gallons every year and 44,000 tonnes of compound – and that is for Super Singles alone. Such significant environmental impacts clearly show that we must change our attitudes by focusing on reuse and recycling. Continental Retreads All Continental commercial tyres of 19.5” and above are suitable for retreading, subject to their condition on removal and passing a casing inspection, and will deliver at least 85% of the mileage of a new tyre.
