Europe's leading tyre manufacturer Continental has obtained several approvals from Audi - both seriously sporty quattro models R8 and RS3, the luxury A8 saloon and the compact A1 are to be fitted ex works with tyres developed by Continental in Hanover. The sporty models come equipped with Continental's high-tech ContiSportContact 5 P as well as the economical ContiPremiumContact 2, whilst the A1 is being fitted with the nippy ContiSportContact 3 and the ContiPremiumContact 2. For the R8, 19" diameter tyres have been approved, with tyres up to 21" destined for the A8; the RS3 is being fitted with 19" tyres, whereas for the A1 there is a choice of 15", 16" and 18" sizes. Audi opted for Continental tyres as they ensure very direct steering precision and the shortest possible braking distances, as well as offering high safety reserves. These tyre characteristics underline the highly lively performance that distinguishes Audi's sporty models. The vehicle manufacturer praised the ContiPremiumContact 2 above all for its low rolling resistance, its short braking distances on both wet and dry roads, and the high mileage performance - in conjunction with precise steering response, these are the main demands made on a premium tyre designed for use on upper medium range and compact cars.
