Kuala Lumpur, 2nd June, 2008 - For the first time, Continental Sime Tyre Marketing (CSTM) is the main tyre partner for the 2008 BMW Malaysia Driver Training (DT) programme. This collaboration is in line with Continental’s overall safety campaign in Malaysia. DT is a comprehensive training programme, running from April to August 2008, which combines both theoretical and practical training. The aim is to enhance driving abilities by developing both attitude and skills through a structured range of programmes that include theoretical and practical training, enabling the driver to respond more effectively in emergency situations and make everyday driving far safer and rewarding. All courses are supervised by certified BMW driving instructors. ContiSportContact™ (CSC™) 3 is the official tyre for the DT sessions. The CSC™3 has excellent grip on wet and dry surfaces, thus having shorter braking distances on both road conditions. On wet surfaces, the unique grooves allow increased clearance of water for better resistance to aquaplaning. The asymmetrical angled sides support and stabilize the pattern ribs and counteract lateral forces, thus providing excellent directional stability as well as extremely precise steering response during swift and abrupt steering manoeuvres.BMW has committed to a dedicated fleet of ten 3 series cars, choosing 325i as the training vehicle. These new vehicles are highly-specified with an advanced 190 kW 2.5-litre magnesium-aluminium six cylinder engine and six speed Steptronic automatic transmission, which feature manual shift capability. Choong Kee Seng, Sales Director for CSTM, commented that the ability to drive one of the training BMW vehicles relieves the participants of worries about using their own, as well as insurance concerns, wear and tear and risks associated with such uses. “Our participation with BMW lets them experience exactly Continental tyres can do.” Today, BMW Driver Training is a truly international initiative for greater safety on the roads with courses conducted across the world including Europe, USA, Canada, Asia and South Africa. The Malaysian program has been developed based on the accumulated experience of 30 years of worldwide driver training. With targeted annual sales of more than €26.4 billion for 2008, the Continental Corporation is one of the top automotive suppliers worldwide. As a supplier of tires, brake systems, systems and components for the powertrain and chassis, instrumentation, infotainment solutions, vehicle electronics and technical elastomers, the corporation contributes towards enhanced driving safety and protection of the global climate. Continental is also a competent partner in networked automobile communication. Today, the corporation employs approximately 150,000 people at nearly 200 locations in 36 countries.
