Today’s requirements on vehicles with internal combustion engine are characterized by more sophisticated emission regulations, rising fuel prices and higher driver’s demand on driving dynamic, comfort in line with increased environmental awareness. For that reason, more and more car manufacturers throughout the world are focusing on vehicles equipped with hybrid technology.

We recognized this market tendency early on, and we are the first supplier in Europe supplying since 2003 a mild hybrid system for production applications. To react flexible and cost effective on todays and future market demands we have developed two modular systems:

• Hybrid module 20 up to more than 70 kW
• Hybrid module 15 kW

Both systems enable the design of an optimized hybrid drive for various vehicle classes. A basic distinction is made between these systems based upon the power output of the electric drive:

• On the 15 kW hybrid systems, the electric motor provides supportive power, which is put to use mainly when starting up and accelerating at low engine speeds.
• The 70 kW hybrid systems have a much more powerful electric drive system. The electric drive remains active into the upper speed range, making it possible to cruise without the combustion engine for a limited period of time.

With the made experience in the different projects including the series production program Continental Automotive Systems is positioning itself as components and system supplier. Our know how covers the electric machine, power electronic with the interface to the conventional board net and energy storage incl. the energy storage management.
