Hanover, in April 2005. Here we go again: On the 9th and 10th of April, the Uniroyal Fun Cup started its season with a 6-hour-race in Spa Francorchamps. Additional races will be held in May, July, August, September and October at the Sachsenring, in Spa once more, at the Eurospeedway, at the Nürburgring and in Zolder. Participating drivers will not only be professional drivers but will also include all winners of our Online-Game at www.uniroyal-funcup.co.uk.

Just in time to start off the season, the 200th Fun Cup car was completed. The Fun Cup cars look like the classic Volkswagen Beetles. Their lightweight plastic bodies are decorated, front and back, with eye catching spoilers. Real race car technology can be found under the hood with features like a space frame, a security tank, a bucket seat and a 5-point belt. Power is provided by a rear mounted, roaring in-line 4-cylinder, 1.8 Liter engine that was previously used in a VW Golf. The transmission was taken from an Audi 80.

The Fun Cup car accelerates to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds and peaks at 205 km/h due to its 130 horse power engine and a frame that only weighs 760 kilograms. Despite the rear engine, the vehicle has good handling due to the standard Uniroyal RainSport 1 tyres which provide a good feeling when driving at the threshold.

Fun Cup races are long-range races that usually last longer than 4 hours. The highlight of this season will occur in July in Spa where a 25-hour-race event will be held which will feature more than 130 starting drivers. The exact schedule for this year`s Fun Cup events:

Lately Uniroyal has been promoting a unique campaign in the specialized press: Test drivers wanted! Anyone can qualify for participation in the 25-hour-race in Spa by playing the Fun Cup Online-Game (www.uniroyal-funcup.de). First one must do well in the Online-Game. Before the race one must also undergo a medical checkup and take a training course. Of course, renting or purchasing a car for this event is also possible for those who do not want to rely on their luck.
