Are two winter tyres enough? Fitting M+S tyres on the drive wheels and keeping the summer tyres on the free-running wheels seems logical enough and an economical solution, but this approach involves tangible risks. When you brake, for example, all the weight is shifted to the front wheels. Rear wheel drive vehicles would then be braked mainly by summer tyres with insufficient grip. So what about front wheel drive? That's also not a good idea, because the different traction and lateral guidance would make the vehicle prematurely unstable in bends. Complete safety can only be guaranteed if winter tyres are fitted to all four wheels. Safety tip: Fit winter tyres to all the wheels on your vehicle!.... and don't forget to check the tread depth (at least 4mm) regularly on your winter tyres too, plus the tyre pressure (according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications)! |
