For the 2004 motorcycle season Continental has developed a completely new product: the ContiRoadAttack. Last year saw a flurry of development and testing in Continental´s Motorcycle Tire business group. Alongside the ContiForce and ContiForce Max models, the ContiRoadAttack covers the sport touring segment for medium - and heavy-weight motorcycles. While the ContiRoadAttack is an O-degree steel-belt tire intended primarily for sporty touring motorcycles and naked bikes, it packs enough performance for genuine supersport bikes as well. It meets all motorcycle demands in terms of grip, mileage performance, riding comfort, safety reserves and design.

The patented O-degree steel-belt construction ensures the ContiRoadAttack the performance spectrum of a genuine sport tire, without compromising riding comfort and stability. The steel wire used is a so-called high-elongation cord consisting of twelve filaments forming three interwound packages of four filaments each. This cord is clad in rubber and three such cords are wound together to form a package.

Because of the special structure of a carcass developed with dynamic footprint technology (DFT), it was possible to realize a contact patch much larger than can be obtained with competitor tires. This ensures better mileage performance thanks to reduced slip on the rear wheel in straightline driving. In the case of cornering, the contact patch is twelve percent larger than for competitor tires. That translates into a considerable increase in safety and vehicle control in all situations. The use of DFT technology allows for use of ultra-adhesion-positive compounds in the case of the ContiRoadAttack. The result is exceptionally high grip on wet and dry roads, without any disadvantages in terms of wear resistance.

With the RoadAttack, bikers arrive at their destination comfortably and safely, not only in good weather. The patented tread compound, employed in combination with technical plasticizers, makes possible a constant grip level over a wide temperature range. With a Shore hardness of 64 (used as a measure of hardness for rubber compounds) at an outside temperature of 10° C., it exhibits the softest compound in the sport touring segment. ASC compound technology (activated silica compound) allows for good wet and dry grip over a wide temperature range from very low to high. Highly structured carbon black derived from the compound development for high-tech sport car tires approved for speeds of up to 360 km/h ensures fast heat buildup combined with wear resistance.

In addition to achieving these technical highlights, Conti engineers also opted for a completely new approach in terms of design. The unique tread pattern styling, with its striking contours, superbly complements stylistic elements in modern motorcycles and ensures, moreover, maximum functionality.

In comparison to conventional tires in the sport touring segment, the ContiRoadAttack thus offers bikers extra grip and driving safety as well as enhanced mileage performance. Releases for diverse touring, naked and supersport bikes with sporty design have already been issued (check out www.motorrad-freigaben.de).
