ContiRV20 –
Continental has developed the perfectly balanced radial tire aimed at applications that require the best comfort, speed capability, longevity and durability, in particular for typical airport applications. Radial tires are synonymous with high speeds, long tire life and good handling, that’s why they’re fitted to cars and commercial vehicles. To provide a tire suitable for the arduous applications and needs experienced at airports Continental has faced the challenge head on, resulting in the ContiRV20 tire. The ContiRV20 radial pneumatic tire, which is also suitable for use in production plants, plant engineering and construction as well as in logistics centres, has compared with a crossply pneumatic tire three major advantages: up to 100% longer service life, a maximum authorised speed of 50 km/h, ideal for transport needs and a greater fuel efficiency and handling. The reasons for these advantages are the specific mix of compounds, the balanced tread depth and the ribbed design. The mix of materials is specifically tailored by Continental to provide extra efficiency during operations. “It facilitates less rolling resistance, which is 30 percent lower than with a cross-ply tire of the same size and is crucial for low energy consumption,” explains Ralf Krieger, Product Development Manager, Industrial Pneumatic Tires at Continental. “For each meter travelled, fuel costs are saved and thus CO2 emissions reduced.” The longer service life is not only achieved by the tread compounds and radial construction but by the tread design as well. Many tires suffer from the “saw tooth effect” which causes greater vibration and loss of valuable tread material. With the compact shoulder design of the tire and the ribbed tread the ContiRV20 has very even wear adding life and avoiding vibrations. The rib design delivers great comfort and an even treadwear. With a lot of rubber contacting the ground and an optimized tread compound Continental achieved an excellent behaviour under wet and icy conditions. Additionally the strong sidewall protects against puncture – the ContiRV20 is up to 100 percent better protected than passenger car and truck tires. Whether being used on a tug, tractors or fork lift trucks at airports, the radial pneumatic ContiRV20 tire moves large loads quickly and reliably thus protecting the driver and goods to be transported with maximum comfort. The ContiRV20 has already been tried and tested at numerous international airports including Shanghai Pudong International. It is being used at Chicago O'Hare airport in the USA and also in Germany in Dusseldorf, Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg and Hanover. Large airlines like Qantas in Australia have reduced their downtimes and their repair costs by up to 80 percent by using Continental tires. US Airways Express talks about ContiRV20 lasting ten times longer thanall other tires used before. “The ContiRV20 tires worked well on the tow tractors in the operation at Thai Airways. Generally Thai Airways is satisfied with the performance of these tires”, declared Watcharaphon Nuanyaisrithong, Assistant General Manager of Chavakit Ruam Yong Co., Ltd at Bangkok, Thailand. The ContiRV20 can be used in all wheel positions and owing to the tubeless sealing ring technology (TSR) can be fitted onto industrial tubeless rims, to protect further against rapid deflation and tire loss. In addition there is the tire ContiRV20 Industrial perfectly fitting on vehicles for industrial use and fork lift trucks that show uneven tread wear. Download Press Release as Word-Document (72KB). Continental SC11 -
For safe haulage on compacted and smooth road surfaces the Super Elastic solid tire SC11 is the perfect choice for tow tractors and trailers, with its excellent tilt stability, failsafe and maintenance free characteristics the SC11 has proven that it can withstand hard applications with ease which extends the life of the tire and lowers the overall cost per operating hours. The SC11 is a tire for the steer position on tow tractors and trailers, the circumferential ribbed tread ensures safety, stability and an excellent steer characteristic. The tire has shown its ability to withstand impacts and cut damages in the most severe service conditions. The Super Elastic can be mounted on standard tire rims and is suitable for airport ground support vehicles as well as haulage trailers in factory applications. The SC11 is available in the sizes: (125/75-8) 15X41/2-8, 140/55-9 and 6.00-9. Download Press Release as Word-Document (72KB). Simex SE132:
In addition to the Continental brand, Continental’s industrial tire range also includes the Simex brand. Simex is used for instance in the airport business, and the SE132 model is used in particular on pushback tugs to push for example the world’s largest commercial aircraft, the Airbus A380. The Simex SE132 cross-ply tire is the optimal solution for the ground handling applications, offering an exceptionally high performance at low operating costs. The advantage of using cross-ply tires: High traction force is transmitted by the crossed carcass layers much better than by the radial cords of the radial carcass. Cords in A direction transmit the forces efficiently from the rim to the tread without high stress in the rubber.
Download this image (PowerPoint presentation) After successfully testing of the Simex SE132 on the Schopf F396P at London’s Heathrow airport and other locations, this industrial tire is now being used by the manufacturer on a regular basis. Push-backs already in service are being retrofitted with Simex SE132. The stable bias-ply carcass deals very well with the high drive forces, and the tire’s tough tread ensures high traction. The Simex SE132 is found not only in applications on airport vehicles. It is also an excellent choice for reach stackers and lift trucks. Download Press Release as Word-Document (114KB).
