Hauling and stacking extremely heavy loads imposes tough requirements on industrial tires. The Homanit plant in Losheim turns out 65 million square meters of woodfiber panels each year. These have to be transported. The ContiRT20 industrial pneumatic tire has proved the perfect solution for this task. Thanks to the new TSR (Tubeless Sealing Ring) system, it outperforms competing products with better mileage, greater fuel efficiency and much lower tire failure in the grueling day-to-day operations. For internal transport of the finished woodfiber panels at the Losheim plant, Homanit makes use of 36 company-owned stackers. They have a carrying capacity of 2.5 to 12 metric tons. The company has been using Continental solid tires and were so impressed that they decided to test the ContiRT20 pneumatic tire. Fewer failures, enhanced cost-efficiency and extended service After a year running the ContiRT20’s, the plant has found that the tire’s favorable purchase price is not its sole advantage. “Before we were getting around ten flat tires a week," reports the plant management. “Nowadays, we have an average of no more than three failures a month with the Continental tires.” The stackers remain in operation longer with less downtime. Costly, time-consuming tire changes now occur less frequently. This is also due to the longer service life that the ContiRT20 demonstrates over the previous tire used. Exact fleet analysis shows that the ContiRT20 often exceeds the average service life of 5,000 operating hours. The whole life cost of the tire was significantly reduced by another feature of the ContiRT20 – better fuel efficiency. In view of the steadily rising energy costs, this was a crucial factor in opting for this tire. The ContiRT20 is a radial industrial tire, with far more tread depth than its predecessor. This ensures that the tire lasts as long as possible, even under the harshest of conditions. The tread pattern design provides reliable traction, even on unpaved and uneven surfaces. The tire also has extremely low rolling resistance for reduced energy consumption. All this has been achieved without having to compromise ride comfort. Homanit in Losheim am See Renitex Holzfaserplattenwerk Losheim GmbH was the first industry to settle in Losheim am See in Merzig-Wadern country in the German federal state of Saarland. It took up production in December 1941. After taking over the plant in 1993, Homanit became a major employer in the community. Around 300 workers are currently employed at the Losheim plant, which makes wood products. It currently turns out around 200,000 m³ of unfinished paneling each year. That works out to approx. 65 million HDF/MDF HOMADUR door skins 2.0 to 8.0 mm thick. The skins leave the plant with or without surface finishing. |
