Valencia and Hannover, April 2011. Flexible in their use, extremely robust and cost-efficient, Continental Simex brand industrial tires are designed for superior freight handling in ports and offer distinct advantages for transport operations. The Spanish company Mediterranean Shipping Company Terminal Valencia has no doubts about their benefits and it has enjoyed a successful partnership with Continental for four years now.

When the new cargo terminal opened in the port of Valencia in 2006, there was initially a whole host of problems with the tires on transport vehicles. It was obvious they couldn't cope with the heavy loads. Then Continental came along and supplied MSC Terminal Valencia with Simex tires for container handling. They impressed the customer right from the very beginning, because they are very robust, long lasting and extremely stable. All handling operations were made easier and more efficient. The vehicle drivers themselves are also convinced. They speak of a greater sense of safety which they now feel while working.

Founded in 1982 and now offering 22 shipping routes, MSC Spain operates the major part of the Valencia port activity through the complete dedicated terminal, MSCTerminal Valencia, whoconsiders the Simex brand a cost-effective solution which is particularly beneficial when used on reach stackers and for empty container handling. "Continental's Simex tires enable us to significantly reduce overall operating costs for port transportation companies," states Federico Jimenez, Sales Managerfor Continental Industrial Tires in Spain.

Today, Continental is the main supplier for RTG’s, Reach-stacker and Empty Container Handlers and also impresses thanks to its extensive product portfolio. For example, Simex tires in size 21.00-35 SE 188 E3 40 are used on rubber-tired gantries (RTG) while sizes18.00-25 CM E4 40 PR and 18.00-33 SE 232 E4 40PR are fitted to reach stackers and size 14.00-24 SE133 E4 28 PR to empty container handlers. Simex tires have an extra deep tread pattern and are a welcome addition to Continental's premium range of industrial tires.

Simex tires are now being used successfully at many ports Worldwide including Chinese ports where Simex is the number 1 import tire. In Europe, Simex brand industrial tires are sold via the Continental Industrial Tires sales and marketing organization.
