• Industrial Tires business unit donates inner tubes

Hanover, November 2010. Tubeless car tires are the norm today, but inner tubes for tires do still exist. Depending on the kind of tire or rim, for some applications, they continue to be indispensable. Sometimes, vacationers at the beach like to use them as oversized inflatable rings, and now they are being used as works of art as well. The Berlin-based artist Michael Sailstorfer chose them just for that purpose. When he approached Continental for help, his request was fulfilled – the clouds of inner tubes will be on display at the kestnergesellschaft, Goseriede 11, in Hanover starting November 26.

Michael Sailstorfer (born 1979) created a unique sculpture using 30 tubes of the size 12.5 – 20. At the young German sculptor’s exhibit, another spectacular room installation produced especially for the kestnergesellschaft meets up with some of the artist’s new works.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Niedersächsischen Sparkassenstiftung, the Sparkasse Hannover, SEW Eurodrive, the city of Hanover’s Environment and City Greenspace department, the Wittingen private brewery, the Friends of the kestnergesellschaft, along with Continental. The kestnergesellschaft is funded in part by the state of Lower Saxony. The North German arts and culture radio station NDR Kultur is the cultural partner.

The continental inner tubes are usually used in MPT and Truck tires.
