Hanover/ Schweinfurt, November 2010. ZF Sachs AG as a part of ZF Friedrichshafen AG is one of the world's major automotive suppliers. At its plant in Schweinfurt, there are 300 front stackers and 300 commissioning vehicles in service that have been equipped with Continental SC15 industrial tires since 2000. By using the new SC20 tire, the company have  further improved cost efficiency. This is largely thanks to the innovative CSEasy SC20, as its mounting system minimizes the work required in changing solid rubber tires.

Solid rubber tires are ideally suited for heavy duty applications on slow moving vehicles on paved surfaces. They exhibit excellent stationary stability, are breakdown-proof and almost maintenance-free. Applications for the tires include forklifts, industrial tractors or heavy-goods transporters in logistics centers, airports and harbors, in industrial production and in smelteries –  wherever  high carrying capacity and cost efficiency are paramount. Solid rubber tires prove their worth for instance in smelteries where glowing metal weighing several tons is transported, or in concrete recycling where sharp-edged concrete chunks and metal pieces can damage the tires.

With a tire life up to 20 percent longer, a tread depth as much as 10 percent greater compared to the SC15, and a rolling resistance as much as 30 percent lower than that of the competition, the SC20 gives an impressive performance. On a forklift, it can reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 5 percent in comparison to a forklift equipped with rival tires. The benefits obtained already by the SC15 tire – longer service life and shorter battery charging and refueling times – are even more evident with this product.

The plant manager at ZF Sachs in Schweinfurt, Karl-Heinz Feser, confirms that the tires last longer at his factory: "The cost efficiency of our forklifts is very important to us. We achieve a tire life about 20 percent longer than that of the SC15 with the SC20. With the CSEasy system, less work is required to mount the tires, thus reducing vehicle downtimes.”

At ZF Sachs in Schweinfurt, the forklifts are used primarily on asphalt surfaces outside and in halls. Loads of one to eight tons are lifted to heights of up to four meters. The transport speeds are between 15 and 23 km/h. "Continental’s field sales team brought our attention to CSEasy in 2006", notes Feser. “In the meantime, we have appreciated not only its long service life, but since it is so easy to mount, vehicle downtimes have almost been eliminated. And thanks to its sturdiness and good rim seating, we are more than satisfied with the tire."
