Kronenbourg Impressed with ContiRT20 Radial Pneumatic Tires

09/10/2010 Hanover, September 2010. Beer from the Alsatian brewery Kronenbourg is a refreshing beverage popular year round all over the world.  With a capacity of 11.5 million hectoliters per year, the production of this Carlsberg Group brand makes it one of the largest in the world. For more than ten years, industrial tires primarily from Continental have been used for loading and unloading new goods and empties.

The tranquility of half-timbered houses, small vineyards, castles on the hill crests and extended forests contrast with the professional brewing art in Obernai, where two freight trains and up to 30 trucks loaded with empty bottles arrive daily. Approximately 80 front forklifts and combination tractor/trailer vehicles ensure that nearly 200 trucks, three freight trains and 20 containers of bottles and kegs filled with beer can depart the brewery's grounds daily, destined for the five French warehouses and worldwide export.

The vehicles used for internal transport come from ATA, SMV, Mora, Carer and Cat® Lift Trucks. They are used outdoors as well as indoors. Various Continental industrial tires are used depending on application and the nature of the surfaces, which vary substantially. In addition to radial pneumatic tires (RT20, IC 70) and Super-Elastic solid tires (SC20), elastic press-on bands (MH20) are also used.

The bottles are delivered to the brewery on pallets. Some are stored outdoors and transported with tractor/trailer combinations. The tractors use IC70 type tires; many of the trailers still have their original SC10 tires, which show only minimal signs of wear. Inside the brewery, MH20 press-on bands are used on the smooth floors.

The Aprolis company is responsible for tire service at Kronenbourg. In the course of the ten year cooperation between Continental and Kronenbourg, tire mounting has been moved from Strasbourg, located 20 kilometers away, to the brewery's own facilities to increase efficiency. Continental has provided a mounting machine for quicker and more flexible tire changing.

"We are very satisfied with the ContiRT20 tires," reported Claude Maetz, Aprolis fleet manager at Kronenbourg. "Tire life has increased from 2,200 to at least 2,400 operating hours, and we have fewer tire failures and less vibration with worn tires." The drivers confirm that the ContiRT20 tires run comfortably and smoothly and are less susceptible to damage. "We are very pleased with the improved performance here as well," Maetz added, who greatly appreciates the excellent advising and expertise of the tire manufacturer Continental when it comes to solving problems.
