ContiRV20 with its high speed capability allows for faster response times and yet maintaining an excellent riding comfort.

Hanover / Munich, September 2009. Continental has developed the perfectly balanced radial tyre aimed at applications that require the best comfort, speed capability, longevity and durability, in particular typical airport applications! The ContiRV20 solution tyre will be presented to an international audience at the 2009 inter airport Europe Fair and can be viewed in Hall B5, on stand 830

Radial tyres are synonymous with high speeds, long tyre life and good handling, that’s why they’re fitted to cars and commercial vehicles. To provide a tyre suitable for the arduous applications and needs experienced at airports Continental have faced the challenge head on, resulting in the ContiRV20 Tyre. The ContiRV20 radial pneumatic tyre, which is also suitable for use in production plants, plant engineering and construction as well as in logistics centres, has three major advantages:

  • Up to 50% longer service life compared with a crossply pneumatic tyre.
  • A maximum authorised speed of 50 km/h, ideal for transport needs
  • Greater fuel efficiency and handling

The reason for these advantages is the specific mix of compounds, the balanced tread depth, and the ribbed design. The mix of materials is specifically tailored by Continental to provide extra efficiency during operation. “It facilitates less rolling resistance, which is 30 percent less than with a cross-ply tyre the same size and is crucial for low energy consumption,” explains Ralf Krieger, Product Development Manager, Industrial Pneumatic Tyres at Continental. “For each metre travelled, fuel costs are saved and thus CO2 emissions reduced.”

The longer service life is not only achieved by the tread compounds and radial construction but by the tread design as well, many tyres suffer from the “saw tooth effect” which causes greater vibration and loss of valuable tread material /life adding to the overall CO2    issue, in what is already a sensitive and challenging area for the airline industry.

A tough reinforced sidewall completes the components of this balanced tyre whether being used on a tug, tractors or fork lift trucks at airports, the radial pneumatic ContiRV20 tyre moves large loads quickly and reliably thus protecting the driver and goods to be transported with maximum comfort. The ContiRV20 has already been tried and tested at numerous international airports. It is being used at Chicago O'Hare airport in the USA and also in Germany in Dusseldorf, Frankfurt/Main, Hamburg and Hanover. Large airlines like Qantas in Australia have reduced their downtimes and their repair costs by up to 80 percent by using Conti-tyres.

The ContiRV20 can be used in all wheel positions and owing to the tubeless sealing ring technology (TSR) can be fitted onto industrial tubeless rims, to protect further against rapid deflation and tyre loss. It is available in 6.00 R 9, 6.50 R 10 and 7.00 R 12 dimensions. Between 6th and 9th October 2009, the high-performance tyre will be presented ‘live’ at inter airport Europe on the Continental stand in Hall B5, stand 830
