Continental develops special tire size for STILL
|
01/28/2008 Hanover, January 2008. STILL is supplying the new RX 60-35 electric fork lift truck - the more powerful version of the RX 60-30. Tires for the new vehicle were developed in partnership with the engineers from Continental Industrial Tires. The end result was the new SC 20 solid tire from Continental in the size 315/45-12. The experts at STILL are well aware of the relevance of tires as the load bearing element. A great deal of engineering expertise was required before the new STILL RX 60-35 electric fork lift went into production. STILL wanted to develop a vehicle in the 3-4 ton category that was as compact as possible . In order to obtain the best possible tire solution the company approached the industrial tire experts at Continental for their specialist support. What they wanted to design was a fork lift based on the well-proven RX-30, but with a load capacity of 3.5 tons. STILL's specification dictated that there would be not much available space to accommodate the wheels and tires. To solve this and produce a new tire size that fitted within the very compact chassis engineers from both STILL and Continental had to work together to find a solution - which resulted in the development of the size 315/45 -12. The first test tires for the prototype vehicles were delivered to STILL in summer 2006. One year later, STILL's new fork lift RX 60-35 went into production with Continental as the sole tire supplier for this model.
The outstanding product characteristics of the SC20 - lowest rolling resistance and extremely long service life - in the new size of 315/45-12 will also benefit the new vehicle. Continental is the only tire manufacturer to supply a comprehensive range of industrial tires, making it the No. 1 in Germany and Europe, and one of the top three worldwide.
