SC20 - the new industrial tire

02/24/2009 Hanover, May 2008. With the introduction of the SC20, the successor to the SC15 solid tire, Continental is setting new standards in efficiency and environmental sustainability. “It took three years to develop the new product,” says Peter Szczeszak, Product Developer, Industrial Tires. “These tires represent the next stage in the impressive line-up of successful developments conceived by Continental engineers, and underline the division’s status as a top supplier.”

The performance of the new SC20 is impressive, with up to 20 percent higher mileage and at least 10 percent greater tread depth in comparison with the SC15, as well as up to 30 percent less rolling resistance compared with the competition. This reduces the CO2 emissions of a forklift truck by up to 5 percent compared to a fork-lift fitted with a competitor tire. The advantages that were already evident with the SC15 of higher mileage and reduced battery recharging or lower fuel consumption are even more pronounced with this product.

Solid rubber industrial tires have been made in the Korbach factory in Hessen since 1907. The SC20 is manufactured in accordance with the standard ISO 9001. The first 17 tire sizes were launched in 2007, with a further five to follow in 2008, and another seven in 2009. The production capacity for manufacture of the new tire is being extended to meet the anticipated high demand. The introduction of the SC20 into production was carried out in accordance with approved standards, so offers the highest possible safety standards.

Continental has been developing Super Elastic tires for conventional industrial pneumatic tire rims since 1965. Tires of this special construction are used for the transportation, stacking and lifting of heavy goods using forklift trucks, transport vehicles, industrial towing tractors, heavy load haulers and other special-use vehicles.
