Continental and EvoBus

03/02/2005 Hanover, February 2005 - For professional drivers, tyres are an important factor. Yet when confronted with proven facts and outstanding product performance, even genuine experts in the field, such as the coach drivers working for Germany's best known First Division teams, can still be surprised.

The coach drivers for the German First Division clubs Bayern-München, Schalke 04, Werder Bremen, Hannover 96, Arminia Bielefeld, VfL Bochum, SC Freiburg and the German national team were given the opportunity to participate in an event jointly organised by EvoBus and Continental, where they were able to actively experience theoretical and practical details of handling tyres on a daily basis.
The event was held in the driving safety centre of the Hockenheimring, where the participants were subdivided into small groups. The focus was on subjects like tyre basics, recommended tyres for Setra and Mercedes-Benz coaches, economy and the partnership between EvoBus and Continental, which was recently considerably extended.
EvoBus is responsible for DaimlerChrysler's European bus and coach activities with the Mercedes-Benz and Setra brands. The agreement, which runs until 2007, goes beyond Original Equipment and involves continued joint co-operation to meet the latest technological demands.
At the two-day driver training event the participants were also able to directly experience the difference between "their" coach and a triple axle Mercedes-Benz Travego coach fitted with Continental tyres - with an HSW tyre on the front axle and its counterpart, the HDW, on the drive axle.
More than anything the drivers were pleasantly surprised by the quiet running of this tyre combination, particularly on the steered axle - a performance result which went well beyond the participants' expectations of this workshop.
