FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 to be played in five smaller 2006 FIFA World Cup stadiums

People like to call the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005 from 15 – 29 June 2005 the “mini FIFA World Cup™”. Accordingly, it has been decided to play the FIFA Confederations Cup in five of the FIFA World Cup’s smaller twelve stadiums. Three matches each will be played in Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig and Nuremberg. Frankfurt am Main, where the stadium with a membrane roof will be officially opened for the FIFA Confederations Cup, will see a fourth game as it is due to hold the final.

Kaiserslautern withdrew its bid to hold FIFA Confederations Cup matches in Summer 2004 as redevelopment work at the Fritz Walter Stadium would not be finished in time.
