Continental gives greater prominence to the internet and provides different platforms for specific target groups

Continental is the exclusive tyre partner of the 2006 FIFA World CupTM. "Ever since signing the contract in early 2003, we have steadily increased our presence on the internet in the run-up to this major event" explains Alexander Lührs, press officer for Continental. The launch of the ContiFanWorld online games website www.ContiFanWorld.com (now available in seven languages) in December 2003 was followed in 2004 by the exclusive presentation of the 'Destination Germany' pages on the official 2006 FIFA World CupTM website www.FIFAworldcup.com in the four official FIFA languages German, English, Spanish and French. In May 2005, the www.ContiSoccerWorld.com platform was launched, providing information in German and English about the 2006 FIFA World CupTM, the qualifying teams, the stars of past World Cup championships and also the company's many own activities in the football sector.

"By now the website has attracted over 200,000 visitors, the majority of whom were as expected particularly keen on the various activities promoting tickets for the 2006 FIFA World CupTM. Many though were also interested in our brand ambassadors Timo Hildebrand, Iker Casillas, Alan Shearer and Ricardo, as well as our team sponsoring activities in eight European countries" adds Alexander Lührs. Continental also provides coverage of the ContiCup 2006, through the regular columns written by brand ambassador and national goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand for the website www.conticup2006.com (German only). The ContiCup 2006 has over 3,400 active participants, making it the biggest football championship for the tyre trade and car dealerships ever to be held in Germany, Austria and Switzerland - and where the winning team receives 10x2 tickets for the 2006 FIFA World CupTM, plus a car for the company.

The Continental Corporation is a leading supplier of brake systems, chassis components, vehicle electronics, tyres and technical elastomers. In 2004 the corporation realised sales of EUR12.6 billion. At present it has a worldwide workforce of more than 81,000.
