Tickets for UEFA EURO 2008™ will be scarce: Win tickets with Continental

The UEFA European Football Championship™ 2008 triggered a record interest among fans. The European Football Association, UEFA, had received 10.36 million requests for tickets, from 588,716 fans in 142 countries, by the March 31, 2007 deadline. This meant the demand for the tournament in Switzerland and Austria (June 7-29) was 18 times higher than at the UEFA EURO 2004™ in Portugal.

For the final in Vienna alone there were 650,000 applications. The overall total cannot be fulfilled. The capacity at six of the eight operative stadiums is limited to 30,000 seats. Only those in Basle (40,000) and Vienna (50,000) are bigger.

The approximately 1.1 million tickets available will be less than a third of those supplied for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. At the UEFA European Football Championship™ 31 matches will be contested, compared to 64 at the FIFA World Cup™. UEFA have announced that around 750,000 tickets will be for sale, rather than handed to sponsors, VIPs, football officials or other privileged groups. In the first sales stage, a third of the available tickets have already been allocated to fans.

In addition, all 16 participating football associations will receive a quota from UEFA. The exact numbers were fixed after the draw. The German Football Association, DFB, will get 6,000 tickets for each of the matches against Croatia and Poland at Woerthersee Stadium, Klagenfurt (30,000 seats), based on a 20 per-cent portion for each of the participating teams. Accordingly, the DFB will have a right for 10,000 tickets for the encounter with Austria at Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna.

German fans can start ordering tickets on the internet as of January 15, 2008, exclusively via the DFB website (http//:www.dfb.de). As a great demand is expected, the DFB has announced it will allocate tickets as before through a draw. A maximum of four tickets will be allowed per person, with all personal data obtained before any allocation.

As sponsors of UEFA, Continental AG will have a batch of tickets for the UEFA European Football Championship™ at their disposal. Many fans will benefit from this, as the company will take care that tickets find their way only to people with an obvious love of football.
