Jens Fiedler, Stefan Nimke and Rene Wolf managed to boost the German medal average. The Germans went for gold in the team sprint as they flew past the finish line on Conti Olympic tires after 43.980 seconds. Stefan Nimke even uses mixed-to-fit white tires. Silver medals were won by Japan's sprinters Toshiaki Fushimi, Masaki Inoue and Tomohiro Nagatsuka (44.246 seconds). The French team, consisting of Mickael Bourgain, Laurent Gane and Arnaud Tournant came third (44.359 seconds) by very closely beating the Australians. Nimke had already won a bronze medal in the time trial last Friday.

Tylor Hamilton (USA), Team Phonak, Switzerland rolled across the finishing line on the Continental tires Tempo in Conti yellow after only 57:31 minutes in the time trial. He was first before his 36 competitors and won olympic gold. The winner of the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney, Wjatsheslaw Jekimow, Russia won the silver medal. After him came Bobby Julich, USA, the former team colleague of Jan Ullrich. In spite of his numerous fans and the low roll resistance of his Continental tires, Ullrich had no chance and was finally ranked seventh.

In the women's race, title holder Leontien van Moorsel, who had already won gold in Sydney three times, was winner of the race again. Judith Arndt - silver medalist in the road race - was only eleventh this time. She used Continental Competition tires in both races.
