eHorizon – Vehicles can now see around the curve

Our innovative eHorizon solution opens a new dimension in proactive driving. Based on the provision and processing of detailed digital map material, the system makes use of this data to optimize the functioning of other vehicle and driver assistance systems as well as for a range of additional application possibilities.

Customer oriented solutions

Thanks to the eHorizon concept’s modular design, a suitable solution can be provided for every vehicle and all requirements.

In the basic version, for instance, a control unit integrated into the vehicle combines the map data with GPS, gyroscope and wheel speed information to precisely calculate the respective vehicle position.

eHorizon can also be integrated into our Multi Media Platform (MMP), which already has a navigation function of its own. This creates a host of additional application possibilities.

eHorizon is based on a data protocol that complies with the ADASIS standard. This interface between the vehicle’s electronic map material and other application components can be adapted individually to meet the specific requirements of different vehicle manufacturers.

How it works

By means of a standardized data format, information such as vehicle position, route and route profiles are continuously transmitted via CAN (Controller Area Network) bus to the other control units. A virtual street image is loaded with the help of an integrated program, the "reconstructor."

Each new data package deletes an older data package from the control unit's memory. Such effective memory management reduces system requirements, minimizes data transfer via the vehicle bus and allows uncomplicated implementation of new functions.

If MMP has been integrated into the vehicle, it does the job of preparing the data for delivery to the CAN bus.

Functions:

  • Comparison of driving situation with map and positioning data
  • Display of driving advice in the instrument cluster or secondary display
  • Curve assistance: a pre-curve warning is displayed in the event that the vehicle is travelling at an excessive speed
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with eHorizon: delays the acceleration process depending on the driving situation, i.e. when joining the slow lane
