• Production began in 2004

Hanover / Aachen, 10 May 2011. Last Friday the 10 millionth tyre with SSR runflat technology was manufactured in Continental’s passenger tire plant in Aachen. Seven years after the first tyre, with which a vehicle can remain mobile for as much as 160 kilometers in the event of tyre failure, this is an impressive production record.

“In recent years here in Aachen, we have specialized more and more on the production of sophisticated, high-quality tyres in accordance with the specifications of vehicle manufacturers”, reports Dirk Weber, manager of the tire plant.

“In addition to the products with runflat technology, these also include many tires in the UHP segment, which we always deliver to car makers’ assembly lines punctually, thanks to the excellent know-how and flexibility of our employees.” Tyres with SSR runflat technology from Aachen are fitted on new vehicles in the plants of BMW, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Mini and Volvo. Some 3 million tyres of this type will be made in Aachen this year.

In the Aachen plant, the leading European tyre manufacture produces approximately 9 million passenger tires each year, particular those in the high-performance sector. The plant is running at full throttle to keep up with the heavy demand.
