• Visitors to the “Sponsors” website have chosen from twelve pictures of the month
• The picture shows Martin Kaymer, second in the world ranking list and winner of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010, in front of an oversized Continental advertising banner

Hanover, February 21, 2011. In January, visitors to the website of trade magazine “Sponsors” chose the 2010 Sportbusiness picture of the year from the twelve pictures of the month presented in cooperation with Getty Images.

The picture shows Martin Kaymer, second in the world ranking list and current best German professional golfer, teeing off in front of an oversized advertising banner promoting the premium brand Continental, as well as the UHP summer tyre ContiSportContact 5 P from the leading European tyre manufac-turer as “Hole-in-one-Sponsor”. The picture was taken in January 2010 by Getty Images photographer Andrew Redington during the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010, which Kaymer went on to win. Continental decided to act as a sponsor at this event together with tyre distribution partner Emirates for Universal Tyres based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to give the premium brand a prominent positioning at this international golf championship held in the heart of the growing region of the Near and Middle East.

“It goes without saying that both we and our distribution partner are delighted that a picture was chosen which highlights our sponsoring activity in Abu Dhabi in such an impressive way”, states Alexander Lührs, Head of Public Relations, Passenger and Light Truck Tires Division at Continental, regarding the voting of the Sponsoring specialists. “Professional sport has been an important platform for us for many years, which we use extremely successfully to increase awareness for and raise the emotional impact of our premium brand. We will continue to focus on football as our main sport, however.”

In cooperation with Getty Images, “Sponsors” magazine presents the Sportbusiness images of the month to its readers every month. Readers are then invited to choose their picture of the year online. The pictures all show scenes from different areas of sport from athletics through to motorsport. The Continental picture was picture of the month in March.
