04/03/2006 Continental 4x4 tires for high grip on asphalt and in off-road terrain Hanover, April 2006. Continental offers six summer tire models for 4WD vehicles in its product range for SUVs, pick-ups and crossover SUVs, ensuring that the right tire can be found for virtually every vehicle. The Conti4x4Contact is designed for service on the road and in easily navigable terrain; the Conti4x4SportContact is ideal for on-road service on fast and sporty SUVs. Amongst the models in the ContiCrossContact family, the AT offers unsurpassed grip in on- and off-road service, while the ContiCrossContact UHP was designed for on-road service on 4WD vehicles with powerful engines. Perfectly suited for use on the road and for moderate off-road driving, the ContiCrossContact LX and the ContiTrac feature an extremely balanced construction with comfortable handling characteristics. This season Continental has significantly broadened its range of 4x4 tires with 17 new sizes. Continental demonstrates the high quality of its products by fitting tires as original equipment on 4WD vehicles from manufactures such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche and Volkswagen. The Conti4x4Contact offers excellent traction on the road and on easily navigable terrain. The tire guarantees prompt steering response and a high degree of directional stability. The tread blocks in offset arrangement generate extremely little rolling noise, while the tire’s wide tread grooves in longitudinal and traverse direction greatly reduce the risk of aquaplaning. The Conti4x4Contact is particularly suited to compact and medium SUVs and crossover vehicles.

For powerful and fast 4WD vehicles, Continental recommends the Conti4x4SportContact, which is approved for speeds of up to 300 km/h. Its asymmetrical tread pattern with compact outer shoulder area delivers ultra-high cornering stability, and wide tread grooves efficiently expel water on rain-slicked roads, thus effectively eliminating the risk of aquaplaning. Thanks to the offset arrangement of the tread blocks, the tire rolls quietly. Conti4x4SportContact tires are factory-fitted as original equipment on the Porsche Cayenne and other vehicles.

The ContiTrac SUV, with its computer-optimized tread pattern, gives medium to heavy 4WD vehicles good grip on the road and on easily navigable terrain, applications for which it is primarily designed. Its qualities are geared to the size and weight of mid-range and heavy American and Japanese 4WD vehicles. The tire’s distinguishing features include its good handling and mileage performance as well as its minimal rolling noise. Thanks to reinforced sidewalls, this tire also offers ample protection from possible damage on the sides of the tire. The ContiTrac SUV is available in a wide range of sizes with rim dimensions of 15 to 17 inches. Nearly all ContiTrac SUV tires are available with white sidewall lettering (OWL).

The ContiCrossContact AT The ContiCrossContact AT has been developed for all drivers who intend to use their 4WD vehicles off-road but still want a comfortable margin of safety in road traffic. By giving the tire an open shoulder, developers of the new ContiCrossContact AT managed to endow it with good handling characteristics on rugged terrain. As a result, the tire not only bites into loose terrain but also provides safe cornering performance on stretches that are difficult to navigate. Thanks to the sturdy tread compound, off-road driving is unlikely to result in damage and notching and the tire can be expected to give good mileage. Most sizes of the ContiCrossContact AT are available with white sidewall lettering. |

The ContiCrossContact UHP Continental has a special tire in its range for extra powerful 4WD vehicles – the ContiCrossContact UHP. Its performance characteristics – including short braking distances and enhanced cornering stability – are geared explicitly to the requirements of 4WD vehicles like the Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5. To satisfy special tire fitment requirements, the tire type is also available in a 23- and 24-inch version. It thus covers a large portion of the retrofitting and tuning requirements in the speed classes V, W, Y and Z (for speeds in excess of 210 km/h to more than 300 km/h). The ContiCrossContact LX The asymmetric ContiCrossContact LX with its open outer shoulder offers good handling and braking properties even on moderate off-road terrain. This is obvious from the tread pattern styling, which incorporates design elements from tires for rugged off-road service. On asphalt, the ContiCrossContact LX provides precise steering response and very good straightline tracking. Three circumferential ribs with block rows in offset arrangement and conspicuous siping make for good handling characteristics and very quiet tire/road interaction.
