Today's sports cars are meanwhile designed to perform in speed ranges formerly reserved for Formula 1 cars. The starting point for the new super sports tire was the successful ContiSportContact 2 rated for speeds up to 330 km/h which was enhanced to deliver a significant gain in high-speed capability. Continental's tire engineers incorporated more tread grooves in order to attain maximum cooling of the tire, even when traveling at the highest speeds. Tire handling additionally benefits from tread depths of between 6.3 and 7 millimeters, which are slightly lower than those of the base model. And, the proportion of negative tread was increased in order to guarantee safe driving on wet roads. These aspects also give the new asymmetrical ContiSportContact 2 Vmax a unique appearance, making it easily distinguishable from the "regular" ContiSportContact 2.
