The Barum brand has been around for over fifty years. The following short summary shows how the company developed from a small shoemaker to a highly successful tyre manufacturer.

1924 Shoe manufacturer Bata makes rubber soles in Czechoslovakia.

1932 The high costs of rail transport prompted the company to set up its own fleet of vehicles to transport goods by road.

1934 To counteract the high costs involved in importing tyres for its fleet of vehicles, the company decides to produce them itself.

Bata invests extensively in the tyre sector.

1945 Merger of the three major rubber-producing companies in Czechoslovakia - Bata in Zlín, Rubena in Náchod and Mitas.

The Barum company is born.

1966 Construction of the current factory in Otrokovice.

1967 The first radial tyre is produced at the factory in Zlín.

1972 Tyre manufacture gets underway in Otrokovice. Tyre production is shifted from Zlín to Otrokovice.

1990 The corporate name "Barum Otrokovice" is registered.

1992 A joint venture agreement is signed with Continental AG.

1993 On March 1st, as a result of this agreement, the Barum Continental s.r.o. Group of Companies is formed, making Barum part of the Continental Group.

Today A programme of extensive investments is implemented, with the objective of modernising the Barum plant in Otrokovice. It is now one of the most modern tyre plants in Europe.
