Re-treading

Re-treading is of high significance for the truck tire market. After thorough inspection of the used tires suitable tires will be equiped with a new tread. Re-treaded passenger car tires, however, face acceptance problems by the customers in many industrial countries. One reason is that the price for re-treaded passenger car tires is in roughly the same range as imported new tires.

Moreover, ecological advantages of re-treaded tires are not so clear and make it questionable if re-treading is always beneficial for the environment. Studies, e.g. in form of Life Cycle Assessments, reveal different results for passenger car tires and truck tires and are also depended on the application of the tires.
