Welcome to the Contidrom Proving Grounds

Located north of Hanover in the Lüneburg Heath, the Contidrom first went into operation in 1967. It has been expanded since then and now offers a wide range of the latest test methods, allowing for trials that would be impossible under normal traffi c conditions. What‘s more, it gives the testing teams of various car magazines the opportunity to „experience“ reproducible results on a regular basis. At one point in the expansion of the original facility, a dry handling track was added. Here this characteristic can be assessed at cornering speeds as high as 160 km/h. The Contidrom also has courses for testing chassis elements and possibilities for testing product characteristics on wet roads. Sprinkler systems installed along the roadways see to it that the respective test circuit is covered with a defi ned amount of water. In view of all it has to offer, it comes as no surprise that the Contidrom is used by nearly all of Continental‘s central European customers for their own testing. The effi cient operation of the facility is ensured by the Contidrom‘s more than 60 employees. Alongside fi tters, data processing experts and the team of test drivers, which includes engineers and technicians, the workforce also boasts a few more exotic figures – like three fire-fighters and a cook.

NVH tracks

Various test tracks are available for acoustic and vibration comfort testing. For evaluating the exterior noise of tires and vehicles, there are 2 courses that conform to ISO standards (ISO 10844) with permanently installed measuring equipment (e.g. microphones, speed radar, weather station). Special vehicles for determining the tire-road noise independent of suction, engine and exhaust noise are also available. Testing of ride comfort and interior vehicle noise is carried out on the coasting track with rough or smooth asphalt as well as “Glen Eagles“ or “Belgian Highway“ surfacing. In addition, there are comfort sections with blue basalt, cobblestone, concrete surfacing, steps, manhole covers, road crossovers and other similar features on the straight sections of the oval. Testing is carried out by our OE customers and Continental NVH engineers.
