Daniel Steiner “Continental gives me the opportunity to work independently and to take on responsibility quickly” When did you join Continental? On September 1, 2007. In which profession did you train? Process engineering for plastic and rubber technologies. You recently completed your training. What are you doing today? What does your work involve? Within the scope of my vocational course at the Hannover University of Applied Science I am at present completing my main course specialising in production technology. During my semester breaks, I am involved in projects within the company. I am undertaking my current project in Mt. Vernon (USA) for the optimisation of unbalance (tire uniformity). You completed your training with honours. Why do you think it went so well for you? I think I was just lucky on the day. But of course, good preparation helps too. How did Continental support you during your training? My trainers were always happy to listen to me and gave me a lot of support in my everyday working life. What tasks did you particularly enjoy during your training? During training, I was able to take part in the planning and development of an extrusion line, that is a …… The equipment was integrated into an existing production line. Why would you recommend training at Continental? What makes the company stand out? Theory and practice are very well interrelated, even during training. This means that you can effectively and directly put what you have learned into practice. The training is designed to link in closely with production and you can set yourself industrial challenges from the start. How do you rate the career opportunities at Continental? As I will be completing my Bachelor’s degree at the end of the year, I think that I have a good chance of being accepted. How important is teamwork in your everyday work? What is teamwork like for you? Even in our training, we were always divided into groups with other trainees who were working on a task. So we had to get along with other characters at a very early stage. This also helped me in production, as you don’t work for yourself but rather solve problems as a team. How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance? As I am often only at home at the weekend, my private life naturally takes a back seat. However, I really enjoy the course and have get to know lots of new people. It is wonderful to come back home though and know that my girlfriend, family and friends are there for me. How do you spend your free time? I spend my free time doing lots of different things. I play a lot of sports and like to ride my motorbike. I play football at a club when I am at home, and when I am studying I keep myself fit by jogging. At the weekend I enjoy going out with friends in the evening. How do you picture your professional future? What do you want to achieve in the future? I would like to continue my studies with a vocational Master’s degree and gain practical experience at the same time. My aim is to take on a management position in the future.
