Formula Student 2011

In the Top League at the Formula Student Germany with Continental

The teams sponsored by Continental gave a first class performance at the Formula Student Germany at the Hockenheimring. The top teams from the universities in Ravensburg, Munich and Karlsruhe came in third, fourth and fifth in the Formula Student Electric contest. The contest’s overall winners were the DHWB Ravensburg (Classic) and the TU Delft (Electric) teams

Around 6,000 spectators, more than 100 teams, four days, two contests – those are the key figures for Formula Student Germany 2011. At this year’s major VDI event at the Hockenheimring, many teams relied once again on the technology and experience of Continental and successfully demonstrated what they are capable of. This year the international automotive supplier again provided a tire service truck and supported 30 teams worldwide with highly-specialized vehicle components and technical know-how.

In the Formula Student Electric contest, three of the teams sponsored by Continental ended up with top rankings. Leading the three was the DHWB Ravensburg team, which came in third. The team gave an exceptionally impressive performance in the categories Acceleration (1st) and Autocross (3rd), and landed third place in the overall ranking. The teams from Munich and Karlsruhe came in fourth and fifth.

“Like last year, the teams supported by Continental put in a very good performance. With tires, battery systems, ABS, sensor systems and various other highly specialized components, we offer the engineers of tomorrow an extensive overall package in international design competition,” explains Heinz-Gerhard Wente, Continental Executive Board member for human resources.

During the four-day event, a prize was also awarded to the RWTH Aachen team.  In a contest on Continental's Facebook Career Fan Page the students mobilized the highest number of fans, winning an end-of-semester party with a value of €1,500.

This year was the sixth time the major VDI event Formula Student Germany was held at the Hockenheimring. Future engineers from international universities had one year to design and build a one-seater prototype on their own, which was evaluated by experts from the automotive industry in three static categories and five dynamic disciplines.
