Tool mechanics are the interface between mechanical engineering and production. They produce individual items for automated manufacturing, e.g. a mold for producing a series product. This demanding job requires expert knowledge of the raw materials to be used (e.g. rubber or plastic) and the technical options.^

Final qualifications

• Certification as tool mechanics by the German Chamber of Commerce
• Vocational school diploma

Responsibilities (examples)

• Manufacture and repair molds and tools for production
• Adapt special tools for production
• Assemble individual parts into finished molds and conduct functional testing
• Maintain and repair damaged or worn molds
