Automotive mechatronic engineer

Automotive mechatronic engineers are responsible for all maintenance and repair work on automobiles. That means they can identify damage and its causes in the workshop and repair the damage. Tire service is also part of their job: they fit and balance wheels of all kinds.

Final qualifications

  • Certification as Automotive Mechatronic Engineers by the German Chamber of Commerce
  • Vocational school diploma

Responsibilities (examples)

  • Operate and commission vehicles and systems
  • Maintain, test and make adjustments in vehicles, systems, operational equipment
  • Fit, remove and repair components, assemblies and systems
  • Maintain and test motor vehicles and systems and make adjustments in them
  • Diagnose faults and disruptions and pinpoint their causes; evaluate results
  • Carry out diagnostics and maintenance, equipping, retooling and retrofitting
  • Examine motor vehicles for compliance with statutory regulations
  • Engage in operational and technical communication

3.5 years

General secondary school certificate plus one-year vocational school or intermediate secondary school certificate
