"The atmosphere is great – pure teamwork!"

How did you end up at the company?
Whether for cars, motorcycles or bicycles – I have always been fascinated by tires. I studied chemistry in Kassel and graduated with a PhD. I first learned about the opportunities at Continental while visiting the careers trade fair Meet@Uni-Kassel.

Please describe your area of responsibility.
When I first joined Continental, I worked in material development for bicycle tires. Initially I was mainly responsible for the development and introduction of new fabrics (tensile members). In 2009 I assumed the role of team leader in product industrialization for bicycle tires and the manufacture of trial tires.  Since 2010 I have been the head of bicycle and motorcycle product industrialization.

What is a typical work day like for you?
In my profession I must be able to react spontaneously to problems and to develop solutions. As a result, I have practically no routines or typical days. Almost 50% of my work involves office tasks, while the other 50% is comprised of implementing new processes, project work, and troubleshooting. 

How would you describe the working atmosphere and the corporate culture?
In two words – pure teamwork! Lone wolves tend to have a difficult time of it here in Korbach. The company culture is generally very transparent and team-oriented. It is always possible to reach colleagues, obtain information, and exchange views within and beyond the boundaries of the plant.

What postgraduate training does Continental offer you?
There is a wide range of courses on offer. I have already participated in various courses and availed of different training programs for managers.

What qualities should future employees possess?
Flexibility, openness, and a capacity for teamwork are important skills. At Continental, nobody should be afraid of change and you should try to broaden your horizons now and then.
