Continental South Africa Fights AIDS

AIDS SA

Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) continues its ongoing fight against AIDS with new projects. Between 20 and 25 percent of the employees in Port Elizabeth are infected with the virus. In South Africa, the fight against the disease is inextricably connected with the commitment of Zukisa Bhaku. Two years after Zukisa Bhaku, the head of the campaign, was honored with the "BASICS Award" for her initiative, she is pursuing four projects that educate and provide practical assistance.

In a training session, employees were intensively educated about the AIDS virus. They are expected to pass on this knowledge to their co-workers. In addition, employees working in the manufacturing operations were given educational brochures. Instruction is also being focused on the administrative employees.

The factory is providing its entire workforce with the effective dietary supplement “Go Ahead”. It strengthens the body's defenses, especially for those who are HIV positive, but also helps keep unaffected persons healthy and fit.

For three years, CTSA has been the main sponsor of the “Back to school AIDS orphans” project. This makes it possible for children whose parents have died of AIDS to return to school. Other companies besides Continental are also participating in the project.
