“Satima Village” Aid Project in Manila

In the slum of Satima Village on the outskirts of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, live approximately 650 families in cramped dwellings and in conditions beneath human dignity. A private initiative of employees of the Continental factory in Manila, their relatives and friends helps to improve the living conditions of people in this neighborhood.

This long-term project is primarily concerned with providing the families with stone houses that withstand storms and rain, sending their children to school, providing them with medical assistance, and improving their everyday lives with donations of goods – in particular clothing and food.

In 2008, the highly committed team helped four students from Satima to complete their studies in hotel and restaurant management. Three of them have already found jobs.

Five children were able to undergo urgently needed operations because the medical and hospital expenses were borne by the aid project.  Surgery was successful for all of the children, bringing more joy and happiness to their lives.

Donations for the project are being collected on a corporate-wide basis by the association "From Heart to Heart", for example at company parties. Since the project began in 2003, safe accommodations have been made available for 42 families, and 61 children have been able to go to school regularly from primary school through to college level.
